FUNERAL
HELD: Otley Leland Dugan, MD DATELINE:
Swanton, Vermont The
Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 1
p.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Pastor,
Father Thomas D. Nadeau was the principle celebrant and homilist.
Concelebrating priests were, The Very Reverend Michael P. Cronogue,
SSE Superior General of the Society of Saint Edmund and Father Brian J.
Cummings, SSE, Spiritual Director of Saint Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte. Assisting as Deacon was The Reverend Mr. Gabriel
Gagne. Edward Daniel and Cleo Yandow served as
Ministers of the Altar. Music was provided by soloist, Jeanne Begnoche accompanied by organist, Michael Olmstead. A
large guard of honor was formed by members of the American Legion, Green
Mountain Post #1 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert Glidden Post 758 both
of Saint Albans. The Crucifix was placed on Doctor Dugan’s casket by his
daughter Martha Dugan Bonnie. His three children, Michael Dugan, Mary Dugan
Hart and Martha Dugan Bonnie presented The Offertory Gifts. Among the
delegations in attendance were representatives from the, physicians and
administration of the Northwestern Medical Center, Mousetrap Pediatrics,
Office of Doctor Richard Dickinson, Handy Toyota, Handy Chevrolet, Total
Sports Repair, The Allen Agency, Lyman C. Hunt Junior High School, Missisquoi Valley Union High School, Mary S. Babcock and
Swanton Central Schools, Highgate School District,
Saint Michael’s College, Saint Anne’s Shrine, The Society of Saint Edmund,
Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement, Missisquoi
Valley Rescue, Wood & Kidder, Inc., Dexter Products, United States Postal
Service, Swanton Village Green Apartments, Hi-Swans Senior Citizens, Rene
Fournier Farm Equipment, and the parish communities of, Nativity / Saint
Louis, Saint Mark’s (Burlington) Saint Amadeus and Holy Trinity. The Rite of
Committal and Interment followed at the Dugan family lot in Saint Mary’s
Roman Catholic Cemetery with Father Nadeau reading the committal prayers. The
bearers all Doctor Dugan’s grandchildren were, David, Brendan, Ryan and
Christopher Boucher, Jonas, Chipper and Leland Hart; Christopher Dugan and
Erin Pfaeffle. Full Military Honors were accorded
the deceased by members of the Vermont Army National Guard, Funeral Honors
Team. The American Flag which draped the World War II Major’s casket was
folded by SGT Anthony Pasquale and SGT Richard Graves and presented to
Michael Dugan by SPC Brian Trombley. Taps were
sounded by Bugler, SGT Graves. Private
