FUNERAL HELD: William Brooke Ostrander

DATELINE: Swanton, Vermont

 

The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday September 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Thomas D. Nadeau was the celebrant and Father Brian J. O’Donnell the homilist. Ed Daniel and Eugene LaBombard served as Ministers of the Altar and Mrs. Helen Stimets as Eucharistic Minister. Music was provided by a combined choir of faculty, music associates, former students and staff under the direction of Armand Messier. Soloists were, Aimee Bushey and Anya Ismial. Instrumentals were offered by violinist, Gianna Messier and saxophonist, Eric Bushey. The Song of Farewell was directed by Donna Costes. Special Music was offered by Brooke’s son, Jordan Ostrander accompanied by guitarist, Reid Anderson. Bagpiper was Jacquelyn Lewis. The White Funeral Pall was draped over Brooke’s casket by Chris LaRocque, Tim Rousselle, John McDonald and Eric Bushey. The Crucifix was then placed by his wife Carol Ann. Readings from the Old and New Testament were proclaimed by daughter Katy Ostrander Anderson and Steven Gagner. The Offertory Gifts were presented by Erik Kilburn, Pauline Kehoe, Carol Schneider and Steven Gagner. Among the large delegations in attendance were representatives from the, Vermont Senate and House of Representatives, faculty students and staff from, Missisquoi Valley Union High School, BFA-St. Albans, Swanton, Highgate, Sheldon and Franklin Schools Districts, National Education Association, BFA Education Association, BFA Athletic Department, MVU Student Council, Northwest Supervisory Union-Office of the Superintendant of Schools, University of Vermont, Title VII Indian Education Program, Abenaki Self-Help Association, The Community Preservation Corporation,  Swanton and Highgate Town Offices, Franklin County Airport, Champlain Country Club, Cota’s Auto Parts and Service, Barrette Ford Sales and Service, Primerica, The Clarke Connection, M& C Transport, Timmy’s Kids Foundation, Swanton Mobil, Northwestern Medical Center, US Postal Service, Swanton Rexall, Chevalier Drilling, Swanton Public Library, REL Team, Swanton Village Fire Department and Auxiliary, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Swanton Historical Society and Champlain Housing Trust. The bearers were Brooke’s son, Jordan Ostrander; son-in-law, Reid Anderson; brother, Bruce Ostrander; brother-in-law, Robert Storck and Bob Deveneau, Eugene Barone, Harry Monohan and Chris Kehoe. Following the liturgy a reception was held for family and friends in the Nativity Parish Center hosted by Mrs. Joyce Bombardier and the Ladies of Saint Anne.
