DATELINE: Saint Albans City Shirley
Rae Austin, 73, died Sunday October 16, 2011 at Northwestern Medical Center
from renal failure surrounded by her loving family. Shirley
was born in St. Albans, February 19, 1938, the daughter of late Joseph and
Jennie Paquette. While raising her
family of four children, she completed her GED. She went on to further her education at
Champlain College, graduating Suma Cum Laude and receiving her Associates
Degree in Accounting. Shirley
was a loving and devoted Mother first and foremost. She was a retiree of IBM and worked to
support her children so they could have a better life. She touched the hearts of many, bringing
smiles to those she met with her larger than life persona. She was known to be nurturing, bright,
witty and all accepting of others. Her
demonstration of independence, determination and strong willed nature were
life sustaining qualities. She will be
greatly missed and always remembered in the hearts of her children. Shirley
enjoyed reading, playing cards, socializing and writing poetry. She loved nature and animals, making
regular donations to the Humane Society and Wildlife Federation. Shirley
is survived by her three children, Joseph Austin, Laurie Austin and Anita
Austin; three grandchildren, Shanna Campbell, Lindsay Tatro
and Ariel Tatro; six great grandchildren, Troy,
Jordan, Chandler, Kody, Gracie and Hunter. She was predeceased by her daughter Rose Marie
Tatro and three brothers, Ralph, Rodney and Robert
Paquette. Shirley’s
wishes were to have a private service in the accompaniment of family. Father Brian O’Donnell will officiate. The Rite of Committal and Interment follow
at Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic
Cemetery, Fairfield. In
lieu of flowers, gift donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the
Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, 05478. Arrangements
are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton
