OBITUARY: Barbara Mae Boylan

DATELINE:  Swanton, Vermont

 

Barbara Mae Boylan, age 84 years, a longtime resident of this area died late Sunday afternoon, April 25, 2010, in the Northwestern Medical Center with loving family at her side.

 

Born in Georgia, VT on, August 4, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Florence Bruley Real. On May 26, 1951 she was married to Neil C. Boylan who predeceased her in 1978.

 

In addition to her responsibilities as the wife and mother of a very large family, Barbara also worked many years in housekeeping at the former Kerbs Memorial Hospital. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile as well as her enjoyment of knitting and crocheting with much of her handiwork donated for the babies at Northwestern Medical Center along with winter hats and scarf’s to the men and women in the U.S. Military. She was also an avid card player spending many hours with family and friends.  She was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a member of the parish Altar Society.

 

Barbara leaves her nine children, Jeannie Boylan of St. Albans and her partner Ken Charland of Plattsburgh, NY, Chuck Boylan and wife Connie of Fairfield, Jackie Quilliam and husband Mike of Swanton, Michael Boylan and wife Jeanette of Bethlehem, NH, Susie Sabourin and husband John of Fairfield, Robbie (Frank) Boylan and wife Liz of E. Fairfield, Pam Gratton and her fiancée Hobie Gates of Bakersfield, Patty Hall and husband Ron of Swanton and Steven Boylan and wife Sheri of Highgate; 21 grandchildren, Paul, Cathy and John Godin; Joddie, Doddie and Chunkie Boylan; Justin, Jennifer and Jordan Quilliam, Chassi and Nick Boylan; Chad and Angela Riley; Lacie and Lance Boylan; Jessica and Corey Gratton, Shalynn and Kelsey Ward and Ashley and Brennden Boylan; 14 great grandchildren, Christopher Derosia, Hanna Godin, Jada Godin, Chelsea Boylan, Colton Boylan, Cody, Lindsey and Hunter Robinson, Heather Cook, Beau Quilliam, Kaylie Richardson, Eric Riley, Addison Gratton and Ayla Boylan. Also surviving is  her sister, Virginia Facteau of Ocala, Fla; a brother, Willis Real of S. Burlington; a sister-in-law, Rosita Garret of Burlington; a brother-in-law, Donald Connor of Fairfield and Polly Real of Burlington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her parents and husband Neil, Barbara was predeceased by her daughter Barbara Ann in 1954; two grandchildren, Ian and Emmett Boylan; a sister, Betty Eldred and special people that touched her life, Steve Gervais and her best friend Doris Pelican.

 

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 1 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. Swanton, (802-868-3331). Father Thomas D. Nadeau will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service. In lieu if flowers Barbara had requested that gifts in her memory be made to, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O.
