Fahy, JOBITUARY: John James Fahy

DATELINE:  West Swanton, Vermont

 

Mr. John James Fahy, age 74 years, died early Saturday morning November 26, 2011, at the Saint Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with loving family at his side.

 

Born in Derryoober, Woodford County Galway, Ireland on April 11, 1937, he was the second son of the late Peter and Agnes (Shaughnessy) Fahy. He studied the classics and received his Masters in Teacher Preparation in Dublin. He received a Masters Degree in Philosophy and Theology from Saint Michaels College in Colchester, Vermont. He was proficient in the Gaelic language and Irish culture. In Ireland he was Headmaster of two prestigious boys secondary schools in Dublin. He was a member of the Dublin Choral Society and performed in productions like Handel's Messiah, Dream of Gerontius by Elgar and Verdi's Requiem.

 

He has been a resident of the United States for the past 25 years and for 21 years lived in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties in Vermont. He will be remembered as a very devout Roman Catholic and a member of Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Parish. John taught as a regular instructor at Rice Memorial High School in Burlington. He was an active member of  Marriage Encounter of Vermont, worked at Howard Community Services and was a member of both the Hi-Swans and Franklin County Senior Citizens.

 

As a professional musician both in song and as a violinist he shared his musical talents throughout the Lake Champlain Islands, in the various churches and enjoyed celebrating Saint Patrick's Day in song with the area senior citizens.

 

He leaves his wife Maryrose (Karanta) Fahy whom he married on July 3, 1986. Also surviving are three sons, Slava and Dima of South Hero and Misha of Burlington; seven siblings, Rita, Michael and Nora of Ireland, Patrick and Mary of New York and Alabama, Edward of Australia and Father Paul Fahy of South Africa as well as his nieces and nephews.

 

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. from Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church 9 North Main Street, Alburgh Village. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist, concelebrating with Father Lawrence P. Ridgley.

 

 There will be no calling hours, however the family will receive friends immediately following the liturgy in the Saint Amadeus Parish Center. Interment will be held privately in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Isle La Motte.

 

In lieu of flowers, Gifts in memory of Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE and John Fahy may be made to Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery, P.O. Box 49 Alburgh 05440

 

Arrangements are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue Swanton.
