OBITUARY: Romeo Allen Gagne, Jr.

DATELINE:  Swanton, Vermont

 

Romeo Allen Gagne, Jr., age 68 years, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at his Hodgdon Drive residence.

 

Born in Highgate Center, Vermont on April 12, 1943, he was the eldest son of the late Romeo Albert Sr. and Alberta (Gagne) Gagne. He attended the former Saint Anne’s Academy and on June 19, 1965, was married to the former Agnes Rose Lafar who predeceased him on June 19th of this year. He had faithfully served his country in the Vermont Army National Guard during the Vietnam EraMC910217052[1]

 

Romeo along with the assistance of his family owned and operated a dairy farm in Swanton from 1971 until 1998. In his earlier years Romeo worked on the construction of Interstate 89 and also as a mechanic for the Chevalier Brothers. He will be remembered for his love of all animals as well as his fondness for children, especially his grandchildren.

 

He leaves his four daughters, Anny Kinney and husband Steven, April Gagne Peters and husband John, Alicia Buskey and her husband Dave and Sherry Gagne all of Swanton; eight grandchildren, Nicole Buskey , Zachariah Peters, Stephanie Buskey, Catherine Buskey, Jacob Peters, Grace Kinney, Nathaniel Peters, and Melody Buskey; brothers and sisters, Adrienne Perrino and her husband Peter of Highgate, Jienette Gagne and husband Marcel of East Highgate, Georgette Roddy and husband David of Highgate Center, Allen Gagne and his wife Linda of Highgate, Daniel Gagne and wife Cindy of Swanton, Marie Maskell and husband Michael of Highgate and Michael Gagne and his wife Sylvia also of Highgate;- sister-in-law, Donna Lafar and brother-in-law, Evey Lafar his wife Patricia and their son William Lafar all of Swanton.

 

Besides his parents and his wife Agnes, Romeo was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ashley Agnes Peters in 2000 and a nephew Stephen Gagne.

 

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday September 27, 2011, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committall and Interment will follow at the Gagne / Peters family lot in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
