DATELINE:  Swanton, Vermont

 

Betty B. Giroux, age 91 years, a lifelong Swanton resident died Tuesday morning December 20, 2011, at the Holiday House Residential Care Home in St. Albans Town.

 

Born in Swanton on January 28, 1920, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Mary (Prouty) Boomhower. She graduated in 1938 from Swanton High School and on November 22, of that same year was married to Dewey Paul Giroux who predeceased her December 18, 2000.

 

In addition to her responsibilities as a devoted wife and mother, Betty along with her husband Dewey and their sons owned and operated Betty's Bake Shop from 1961 until 1973. She was a member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne and the parish Altar Society. She was also a member of the Swanton Village Fire Departments Auxiliary, a past president of the former Saint Anne's Academy Mother's Club and had a long association with Wood & Kidder Inc., and Kidder Memorial Home. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grand and great great grandmother. An avid Bingo player Betty also enjoyed trips to the Montreal Casino.

 

Betty leaves her three sons and their wives, Tom and Dawn Giroux of Hampden, ME, John and Kathy Giroux of Franklin and Patrick and Carol Giroux of Montpelier. Also surviving are a brother, Pat Boomhower of Clearwater, FL; sister-in-law, Marie St. Pierre of E. Fairfield; brother-in-law, Marcel Giroux of the state of Georgia; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and many many good friends.

 

Besides her husband Dewey of 62 years, Betty was predeceased by 5 brothers and sisters.

 

A celebration of Betty's life will be held Friday, December 23, 2011, at 1 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Brian J. O'Donnell will officiate. A private committal service for immediate family members only will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

 

 There will be no public calling hours.
