SWANTON - Leona H. (Bean) Hakey, 83 of Swanton died peacefully
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Franklin County Rehab in St. Albans (after a
brief illness) with her loving family by her side. Born on August 29, 1926 she was the
daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha (Lacoste) Bean. On November 1, 1945 she married Leo Edward
Hakey who survives her. Leona worked for
Fonda Container Corporation from August 16, 1953 until her retirement in
August 1988. She was a dedicated and avid bingo player where she enjoyed the
company of friends as much as winning of the game. She loved to watch World Wrestling
Enterprise matches on television and would stay up late nights to see a
fight. She will be fondly remembered for her generous and caring ways, for
her love of all of her “babies” even when they grew up and for being a
dedicated mother and wife. In addition to her
husband of 64 years she is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Larivee and
her husband Ronald of Enosburg Falls, two sons Raymond L. Hakey Sr. and his
wife Jeanne of Tucson Arizona, son Gary G. Hakey and his wife Linda of
Sahuarita Arizona, her grandchildren Tamara Gagne and husband David of St.
Albans, James Larivee and wife Jeannette of Enosburg, Shawn Larivee and wife
Amy of Enosburg, Parmallee Chaffee and husband Justin of Highgate, Raymond
Hakey Jr. and wife Jennifer of North Carolina, Michael Hakey and wife Natalie
of Arizona, Jason Hakey and wife Penny of Swanton, Chad Larivee and wife
Heather from Highgate, Todd Larivee from Enosburg, 17 great grandchildren and
1 great great grandchild who was able to bring her much pleasure over the
last year; her sisters Lorraine Corbiere and husband Merle and Helen
Bouchard, brother Donald Bean, sister-in-law Gladys Cross and several nieces
and nephews. In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded by her sister
Doris Beaulieu and brother-in-laws J. Roland Bouchard, Ectus Cross and a
nephew Stephen Bouchard. A celebration of
Leona’s life will be hosted by Kidder Memorial Home located at 89 Grand Ave,
Swanton, (802-868-3331), on Saturday, June 19th at 11a.m. Father Daniel
J. Jordan will officiate. The Rite of
Committal and Interment will follow at the Hakey family lot in Riverside
Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 to 9
p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the
funeral. Gifts in Leona’s
