DATELINE:  Alburgh, Vermont

 

Anita P. Hunter, 80 years young, died February 4, 2012 at Pillsbury Manor in South Burlington, VT. Anita was a lifelong resident of Alburgh, VT

 

Anita was born in Alburgh on July 10, 1931, to Rene Prairie Sr. and Sadie (Langlois) Prairie. She graduated from Alburgh High School on June 14, 1948, and attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, She married the love of her life Carl James Hunter on December 30, 1950.

 

Anita and Carl owned and operated a dairy farm in Alburgh their entire lives. Besides being a devoted wife and mother of ten, she was active in St. Amadeus Church. Without a doubt family was first and most important in Anita's life. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. Anita will always be remembered as a gregarious and outgoing person who was endeared by all who knew her.

 

Anita was adored by her ten children. Her daughters: Beth Hunter and Mark Langlois of Swanton; Deborah and Raleigh Palmer of South Alburgh; Susan Hunter of Swanton; Sandra Murphy of Underhill; Cheryl and Tracy Hetrick of Milton and Jennifer and Eric Luneau of Sheldon Her sons: Gregory Hunter and Mary Fargen of Bakersfield; Michael Hunter of Alburgh; Brian and Maureen Hunter of Sandy Hook, CT and Timothy and Julie Hunter of Grand Isle.

 

She will also be greatly missed by her eighteen grandchildren: Jessica (Michael) Cota; Andrea (Josh) Bushey; Kim (John) Littlefield; Shawn and Nicholas Palmer; Adam (Lizzie) Ledoux, Todd Ledoux; Shane Hunter, Kyle and John Murphy; Christopher, Laura, and Lexi Hunter; Tessa (Ginnessa) Hunter; Maxwell Hunter; Nathan and Joshua Hetrick; and Hayzen Luneau.

Anita was blessed with seven great grandchildren: Chad and Travis Littlefield, Ella Ledoux, and Alexis, Colby, Brooklyn and Addison Cota.

 

Anita is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Megan and Carlene Yarmowich; as well as her brother Rene Prairie Jr.

 

She was predeceased by her parents, Rene and Sadie Prairie; her son-in-law, Chris Murphy; her sister, Lorraine Yarmowich, and the love of her life, her husband Carl Hunter.

 

The family would like to thank Laurie Farnsworth, as well as other special caregivers, for all the wonderful care that they gave our mother.

 

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. from Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, 9 N. Main St. Alburgh Village. Father Lawrence P. Ridgley will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Hunter family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery.

 

Honoring Anita's wishes, there will be no public calling hours.
