DATELINE: Mena Arkansas / Swanton, Vermont Rita Mary LaBier,
age 79 years, a native and longtime Swanton resident died Saturday, May 14,
2011, Arkansas where she had most recently been living at
the Peachtree Assisted Living Facility in Mena. She was the wife of the late
Calvin LaBier. She was born on Tuesday, October 6, 1931 in
Swanton, the daughter of Ray and Bernadette (Lauzon)
Campbell. During the years Rita lived in Vermont, she
worked at Montgomery Ward and Eveready Battery in St. Albans and later, for
many years managed the Hot Lunch Program at Missisquoi
Valley Union High School. Rita lived for the day because she never knew
what tomorrow would bring her. She was
a witty and humorous person and always had a smile on her face or was
laughing. She loved to go dancing and
singing with her husband and enjoyed all different kinds of music. She also loved her baseball and was an
Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox fan.
She enjoyed her family and friends and loved to cook for them, her
specialty being baked ham. She liked
to travel and would come back to Vermont for 6 weeks to visit her family here. She loved all the staff at Peachtree
Assisted Living and all the hospice nurses who took care of her. Rita is survived by three brothers, Ronnie
and Jimmy Campbell both of Swanton and Gary Campbell of San Francisco, CA as
well as several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband,
Rita was predeceased by one brother, Donald Campbell. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton with Father
Thomas D. Nadeau as celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and
Interment will follow at the LaBier family lot in
