Alburgh,
Vermont Anna Lillian Martell, age 81 years, a
lifelong Alburgh resident died early Friday morning
September 2, 2011, at her Martell Road residence with loving family at her
side. Born in Alburgh, VT
on October 17, 1929, Anna was the daughter of the late Milan and Lillie
(Hemmingway) Soule. She graduated from the former Alburgh
High School and later attended the Jeanne Mance
School of Nursing. On February 12, 1949, she was married to Louis Edward
Martell who predeceased her on June 24, 2002. In addition to her many responsibilities as a
wife and mother, Anna was very active in the daily operation of the family
dairy farm. Anna’s organization and business skills, along with her work
ethic allowed for a very smooth farm operation. She will also be remembered
for her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens as well as keeping an
immaculate house and impeccably neat lawn. She was a wonderful cook and her
doors were always open to everyone. She leaves her children, Lois Laskowski and husband Thaddeus of Sheldon, Bruce Martell
and friend Fran Rochon of Ferrisburg,
Steven Martell and friend Brenda Hall of Alburgh
and Mary Ann Martell-Bohannon and husband David of Alburgh;
grandchildren, Shauna Clifford and husband Brian of St. Johnsbury,
Stacie Peyrat and husband Brian of Fairfax,
Stephanie Blair of Alburgh, Meaghan Blair of Isle
La Motte and KaSondra
Blair of Swanton; great grandchildren, Hillary Peyrat
of Fairfax, Michael Wright of Alburgh, Kayleigh Blair of Alburgh and
Madison Blair of Isle La Motte; sisters-in-law,
Lucille Chamberlain of Rouses Point, NY, Gertrude Soule of Alburgh and Lorraine Soule of Stratford, NH and many
nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Louis “Sonny”
Martell, Anna was predeceased by her son, Louis Edward Martell, Jr., on
February 14th of this year. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 10 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman
Catholic Church, 9 North Main St. Alburgh Village. Fr. Lawrence P. Ridgley will be the
celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at
the Martell family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery. Friends may call at The
Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Gifts
