DATELINE: Georgia
/ Franklin, Vermont Mr. Wayne Edward Mullen, age 89 years, a longtime
resident of the Georgia Highbridge Road died Monday
morning October 3, 2011, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility following
a long battle with emphysema. Born in Saint Albans, Vermont on May 11, 1922, he
was the son of the late Arthur and Ethelyn (Moore)
Mullen. He was a graduate of the former Franklin High School and on August
18, 1943, was married to, Dorothy Hoadley who
predeceased him on March 26, 1994. For most of his working life Wayne owned and
operated dairy farms in Franklin and West Berkshire, Vermont and following
his retirement from farming settled with his family in Deland, Florida. He
later returned to Georgia, Vermont where he has resided ever since. He was an
avid hunter who loved the outdoors, gardening and his camp at Lake Carmi. He
will be remembered for his good nature and sharp wit. He was also well known
throughout the area for the meticulous care he took of
his home and lawn. He was a longtime member of the Georgia United Methodist
Church. Wayne leaves his two sons, Alan E. Mullen of
Georgia and A. Jay Mullen and his wife Elizabeth of Morgantown, West
Virginia; three grandchildren, Steven Mullen, Linda LaPierre
and Michael Mullen; eight great grandchildren and several nephews. He is also
survived by a very close friend, Patricia Colburn of Georgia. In addition to his parents and his wife Dorothy,
Wayne was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Connie Mullen on April 28th of
this year and by his brother, Charles Mullen. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 7,
2011, at 11 a.m. from the Georgia United Methodist Church with Pastor Hyung-Kyu Yi officiating. A reception for family and
friends will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall. Interment
will take place Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the family lot in Saint
Mary's Cemetery, Square Road, Franklin. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial
Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Gifts in Wayne's memory may be
