DATELINE: Highgate Center,
Vermont Doris Lillian Nadeau, age 85 years, a
lifelong Highgate resident died early Thursday
morning September 1, 2011, at the Saint Armand Road home of her son Daniel
and his companion Becky Gamache. Born in Franklin on April 12, 1926, Doris was
the daughter of the late Victor and Yvonne (Gagne) Bilodeau.
She attended school in Highgate Springs and on,
September 16, 1950, was married to John Leonard Nadeau who predeceased her on
October 23, 1975. Doris will be remembered as a very hard
working and strong spirited woman who never let any of life’s challenges get
her down. In addition to the responsibilities of running the family dairy
farm she was associated for many years with the Franklin County Foster
Grandparent Program in both the Swanton and Highgate
school districts. She was a lifelong faithful and devoted parishioner of
Saint Louis Roman Catholic Parish where she belonged to the Ladies of Saint
Anne and volunteered many years in the parishes Religious Education Program.
She also worked several years as a caregiver for several area shut-ins
including Fred and Lucille Bell. She was a member of the local Red Hat Club
and often attended Care Partners in Saint Albans. Her hobbies included
gardening and crafts and she enjoyed traveling. Survivors include two sons, Dennis John and
his wife Wendy of Highgate and Daniel Roger and his
companion Becky Gamache of Swanton; a grandson, Daniel
Colby Nadeau; a step-grandson, Corey Gamache and
two foster grandchildren, Hailey and Dillon Banyea
whom she looked forward to seeing everyday. Doris
also leaves three sisters, Pauline Greenia of
Sheldon, Louise Smith and husband Alton of Lunenburg, and Alise
Estelle and husband Roger of Somers, CT; three brothers, Lionel of Swanton,
Germaine and his wife Gisele of Highgate and Reginald
and wife Sue of Saint Albans; her brother-in-law Rosaire
Gagne of Highgate Center as well as many nieces and
nephews to numerous to mention. She also leaves her Golden Retriever Bolder
and parakeet Travis the Bird. Doris family extends their deepest gratitude
to Ginny Alger who made it possible for Doris to remain at home during these
last weeks as well as to the staff of the Franklin County Home Health Agency
most especially Tracie Pilbin and Traci Osterhoudt Besides her husband Doris was predeceased by
a son Marck Joseph on February 6, 1988; brothers
and sisters, Rachel Gagne, Anita B. Therrien, John
P. Bilodeau and his wife Marie, Gisele L. Smith and
husband Roy, Norman J. Bilodeau, Theresa C. Blouin, Andre R. Bilodeau and
his wife Diane, Donald J. Bilodeau and wife Judy
and Rita Cecile Bilodeau; brothers-in-law, Octave Blouin and Paul Therrien. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. from Saint Louis Roman
Catholic Church, 186 Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the
celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at
the Nadeau family lot in Saint Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder
Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
