DATELINE: Franklin, Vermont Betty
L. Schmidt, age 85 years, died late Saturday evening December 31, 2011, in
the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility with her loving husband John and
family by her side. Born
in Kansas City, MO on August 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Jess
A. and Margaret (Carroll) Lane. She attended and graduated from schools in
Kansas City and on July 7, 1945, was married to John A. Schmidt who survives
her. Moving
to Franklin, Vermont in 1976, Betty became active in the community serving as
town health officer and lister as well as a
longtime volunteer with Franklin Rescue. Wintering in Hudson, Florida she had
served as Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and while living in
Maryland belonged to the Ladies Red Hat Society. In
addition to her husband John of 66 years, Betty leaves two daughters and
their husbands, Julie and Jack Bowlin of E.
Greenville, PA and Jennifer and Mark Bombardier of Swanton; four sons, John
and his wife Kathy of Augusta, W. Virginia,
Jerry and wife Belinda of Telford, PA, Jim and wife Debbie of Trumbauerville, PA and Jack Schmidt of Swanton;
grandchildren, Jonelle and Janna, Kellie and Chris,
Kristie and Sara and Kim and Jeremy; several great grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews. She
was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Lane and a granddaughter, Michele Mohrey in July of 2011. The
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday January 7, 2012, at
11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada
St., Swanton. Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist.
Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Roman Catholic
Cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial
Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
