DATELINE:  Alburgh Springs, Vermont

 

Nancy Ann Christopher, age 69, a native and lifelong Alburgh resident died Thursday morning, October 13, 2011, in the Franklin County Rehab Center with loving family at her side.

 

Born at home in Alburgh on June 21, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Oscar J. and Anna (Bourgeois) Bohannon. She graduated from the former Saint Anne's Academy in Swanton and later attended Trinity College and the University of Vermont.  Since 1992 she has been the owner and operator of the Lakeside Berry Farm located on Route 78 in Alburgh. On June 19, 1965, she was married to Edward Christopher who survives her.

 

Over the years Nancy has been active in many state and local organizations. She served from 1991 - 1994 in the Vermont House of Representatives and was Vice-Chairperson of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Committee. She was a founding member of Ducks Unlimited in Grand Isle County and also assisted in establishing the Grand Isle Health Center. She was a board member serving with the Northwest Unit for Special Investigations, member of the Alburgh Public Library Association and was a longtime member of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 Auxiliary. Nancy was presently serving as president of the Alburgh Springs Community Hall Restoration Project. A lifelong active and devoted parishioner of Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church Nancy served on the parish Pastoral Board, as a volunteer in the Religious Education Program, sang in the church choir and served as a church Lector.

 

In addition to her husband Ed of 46 years, Nancy leaves three children, Eric Christopher of Swanton, Lori Barnard of Ridgefield, CT and Neil Christopher of Alburgh; two grandchildren, Austin and Landon Christopher of Swanton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Besides her parents Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Jean Bohannon on September 22, 1993.

 

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday October 18, 2011, at 3 p.m. from Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, 9 North Main Street, Alburgh Village. Father Bernard W. Bourgeois will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Christopher family lot in The Greenwoods Cemetery, Alburgh Springs. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Gifts in Nancy's memory may be made to the Alburgh Springs Community Hall Restoration Fund, in care of Carol Cleland, 1 North Main Street, Alburgh 05440.
